Top 10 reasons why gay and lesbian couples should not be allowed to marry
- Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
- Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
- Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.
- Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
- Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
- Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
- Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
- Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
- Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
- Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
(It seems silly but these arguments, before the humorous common sense additions, are real reasons why some people opposed marriage equality.)
From Freedom to Marry 
In case you are wondering, I wholeheartedly support marriage equality. I hope and pray that my daughter and her partner may legally marry someday in their state. (Although they are legal partners, they cannot legally marry one another.)

I should've known before I got too far into this list! I read the first two items on the list and had this "uh-on" feeling in my stomach. By the time I got to the third and fourth item, I was thinking "OK, this is sarcasm" PHEW! Good luck to your daughter and her partner

At the same time, it's not about having a piece of paper that says you're married ... it's about the covenant relationship.
If it were me, I'd prefer the legal rights, and a more meaningful ceremony than so many of today's weddings.

They forgot about how gay marriage will open the door to all sorts of variations on marriage, like polygamy. Lord knows we wouldn't want to see THAT flourish anywhere in America!!!

I had to spend time with my extended family yesterday and hear about how if gay people are "allowed" (whatever that means... allowed to marry? live? stay in the US?)then people will get converted and no new babies will be born.
