I had to have my daughter in Seattle point out that Rick Perry, the TX governor with BIG hair, babbled about seceding from the union. He is ridiculous.
"Texas Gov. Rick Perry riled up the “anti-government protesters” at an Austin “tea party” rally Wednesday, said Michael Landauer in The Dallas Morning News. But later he uncorked some truly “over-the-top radicalism,” calmly suggesting to reporters that Texas might secede from the United States. People are angry, but stirring up the “Republic of Texas nuts” to potentially “dangerous levels” won't help."
And this shows Perry's clarity and eloquence:
"There's a lot of different scenarios," Perry said. "We've got a great union. There's absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that."

Yeah Jan, I gotta admit, your gov is a bit of a horse's patuty. But then, as long as these are the voices of Republicanism, we have little to be concerned about I reckon. The Rethugs continue in their circular firing squad.
I hate to tell you, but Texas is not the first state to talk about secession recently. It is going to happen. I know of a couple professors who have been talking this for more than a decade (and who have accurately predicted the path we are on as a country now). It will likely be a group of states where they are smaller, forming countries, with bigger states like Texas forming their own, licensing military and other government services so that the current U.S. becomes more of a service provider.
When you consider the exponential growth of the population as well as the dogged determination to dissolve all national borders, this path is inevitable. We're moving to a one world corporation that provides services to the world's countries, for a price.
And now Georgia is threatening to secede. They can leave, with Texas. Don't let the door hit them... etc. etc. I hope they're required to have visas to leave, which will be denied to anyone who voted for W in either of the elections.
Unlike Georgia, Texas actually has the legal right to secede. And, while there are quite a few nutters advocating secession in light of the Obama election, there are many more of us who have been secessionists all along. Presbyterian Gal is right, as the Presbyterians often are, that it will happen. It's just a matter of time.
Texas actually does not have the right to secede. There is no such provision written anywhere. Texas, does, however, have the right to split into five different states.
